Building the Sequence

How to build a campaign's sequence of steps on the Sequence tab.

Written by Anna Ralon

The sequence is the path every prospect of a campaign follows: emails, LinkedIn actions, actions such as tag changes, and conditions that split the path in two. You build it on the campaign's Sequence tab.

Choose your channels

The first time you open the Sequence tab, pick Email + LinkedIn, Email only or LinkedIn only, then click Start with this sequence. You can change every step afterwards.

The canvas

Each card is a step, with its delay at the top. A sparkle icon marks the messages written by AI. The counts at the bottom of a card show the prospects waiting at the step, those in error and those who are out of it; click a count to see who.

A label such as Unfinished, Pitch incomplete or Connect email on a card means the step can't run yet. Hover it to see what to fix.

Add a step

Click + between two cards, or at the end of a branch, and pick what to add.

The + menu with the LinkedIn actions open
  • Email: an email you write yourself, the same for every prospect.

  • AI Email: an email AI writes for each prospect.

  • LinkedIn profile view: visits the prospect's profile.

  • LinkedIn connection request: sends an invitation, with an optional note.

  • LinkedIn message: LinkedIn only lets you message your connections, so place a connection request (and a Check connection on LinkedIn condition) before it.

  • Add tags and Remove tags: change the prospect's tags and move on.

  • Add to another campaign: moves the prospect to another campaign. It can only be the last step of a branch.

To write a message, click its card. More about writing messages here.

Conditions

A condition splits the sequence in two: prospects who match go down Yes, the others down No. Two conditions are available in the + menu:

  • Check connection on LinkedIn: Yes when the prospect is connected to the sender. It comes with a 3-day delay, so prospects have time to accept the invitation.

  • Check for an email address: Yes when the prospect has an email address.

Delays

Every step has a delay: how long Overloop waits after the previous step. To change it, click the three dots on the card and choose Edit delay. Tick Exclude weekends to count business days only.

The three dots on a step card also offer:

  • A/B test: sends two versions of the message to compare them. More about A/B testing here.

  • Continue if this step fails: a prospect the step can't run for (for example, no email address) moves on instead of waiting in error.

  • Duplicate and Delete this step. Prospects on a deleted step leave the campaign.

Prospects at a step

Click a step card, then Prospects in to see who is at the step and why they wait, or Prospects out to see who is done with it. Hover a status to see the reason. The three dots on a row let you move the prospect to the next step (Skip delay while they wait out a delay) or disenroll them. When a prospect is held because they have no email address, Find email looks one up.
