Configure CNAME for Tracking Links

Configuring a CNAME (Canonical Name) lets Overloop use your own domain for tracking email opens and link clicks. This improves deliverability, makes your links look more trustworthy, and can positively influence your sending capacity over time.

Note: Tracking domains are not configurable for webmail addresses (e.g. @gmail.com, @outlook.com). You’ll need to use a business domain that you own.

Why Set Up a Tracking Domain?

  • Improve deliverability → Emails are less likely to get flagged as suspicious when tracking links use your own domain instead of Overloop’s.

  • Protect your brand → Recipients see links that match your domain.

  • Enable tracking → Unlock open and click tracking in Overloop campaigns.

  • Support higher sending volumes → Together with SPF/DKIM authentication and Smart Limits, a custom tracking domain helps you safely scale your outreach.

Keep in mind: Setting up a tracking domain does not instantly raise your sending limits. Overloop automatically use Smart Limits to gradually ramp up safe volumes.

How to Configure the CNAME

Once you've connected your email account to Overloop.ai, your domain will appear in the Deliverability settings and be ready for you to add a CNAME.

  1. Go to Settings > Deliverability in your Overloop account.

  2. Click the Configure button next to your new domain.

3. Enter the preferred subdomain. Common choices are click, or tracking and hit the Next button.

  • Example: if you choose “click”, your tracking links will look like click.yourdomain.com.

  • Do not use “www” as your prefix.

4. Create a CNAME record in your DNS settings using the values shown in Overloop.

Note: Some providers require a dot (.) at the end of the “Points to” (Destination/Target) value. Check your DNS host’s documentation if you’re unsure.

5. When the CNAME is set in the DNS settings, click the Verify and Save button.

Note: DNS changes may take a few minutes to several hours to propagate. If verification fails at first, wait and try again later.

CNAME Setup for GoDaddy

If your DNS host is GoDaddy, follow their guide on adding a CNAME record.

You’ll need to enter the following values (replace domain-com and domain.com with your actual domain):

  • Host: click

  • Points to: click-domain-com.ovrlptrck-cstm.com

Then go back to Overloop → Settings > Deliverability and verify your tracking domain: click.domain.com

Example

If your website is mycompany.us:

  • Host: click

  • Points to: click-mycompany-us.ovrlptrck-cstm.com

  • Verify: click.mycompany.us in Overloop

CNAME Setup for Cloudflare

If your DNS host is Cloudflare, follow their instructions on how to add a CNAME record.

You’ll need to enter the following values (replace domain-com and domain.com with your own domain):

  • Name: click

  • Target (Content): click-domain-com.ovrlptrck-cstm.com

Note: Make sure the Proxy status is set to DNS only (grey cloud, not orange). Otherwise, the verification will fail.

Once the record is added, go back to Overloop → Settings > Deliverability and verify your tracking domain: click.domain.com

Example: If your website is mycompany.us:

  • Name: click

  • Target: click-mycompany-us.ovrlptrck-cstm.com

  • Verify: click.mycompany.us in Overloop
